The world's greatest vegan dessert

Nice cream?

Nice cream aka banana ice cream is a vegan breakfast or dessert made wholly from frozen bananas and the flavouring of your choice. It’s a much healthier substitute to ice cream as it virtually has no fat and you can have more of it with half the calories. The world doesn’t revolve around calories of course, but its an easy substitute to replace your ice cream with and help with the new year’s resolution of eating a cleaner diet.

Methods
It’s really practical, peel as many bananas’ of your choice, I usually use two, then place them in the freezer for at least 8 hours. Take them out of the freezer and place in a blender adding small quantities of plant based milk or water and blend, using a spoon to assist the blender with the blending process. Ultimately you’re left with a swirly looking cream.

Need some flavour?
If you want to add some flavour to your nice cream you can add any fruit of your choice, berries taste the best, or even some cocoa powder for a chocolaty flavour, or pb2 butter (a peanut butter powder with half the fat and calories of regular peanut butter) for a nutty flavour. If you want to be a bit naughty, throw some crushed Oreo’s or dark chocolate on the top.

Everyday I continue to experiment with my nice cream flavours but I’m still on the hunt for the perfect one. Try out this recipe and let me know what you think about it.

Eating out as a vegan?

The question I always get asked is “As a vegan can you still eat out?”.
The answer is yes, yes you can. A lot of big restaurant chains have now invested in making their food more vegan friendly meaning that you don’t have to miss if you’re going out for a birthday dinner and some sort of other event. Below I have a list of popular restaurant chains who  you wouldn’t know service plant based foods.

Macdonald’s;
·      The vegetable deluxe without mayo as mayo contains eggs.
·      The spicy veggie sandwich wrap without mayo
·      The spicy veggie wrap without mayo
·      French fries

KFC;
·      Fries
·      Corn on the cob without butter
·      House salad but house salad’s are DEAD

Nandos;
·      Homous with peri peri drizzle
·      Spicy mixed olives
·      Peri peri nuts
·      Veggie burger, wrap and pitta without yogurt or mayo
·      Portobello mushroom and halloumi burger without the halloumi which therefore just makes it a mushroom burger…
·      Quinoa salad without feta cheese
·      Mediterranean salad without feta cheese
·      Corn on the cob
·      Garlic bread
·       Chips
·       Peri-salted chips
·       Mixed leaf salad
·      Chargrilled veg
·      Sweet potato wedges sans dip

So now lets get to pizza places, first ask whether pizza bases are vegan, domino’s have no vegan pizza bases as the all contain dairy, but you can still opts for wedges. Order any veggie pizza without the cheese and you’re all good to go.

A lot of Indian and Asian places have vegan options since they mainly eat a plant based diet, the main cuisines to be weary of are, American, British and Italian cuisines since they all incorporate dairy and meat.

In restaurants chips are always a safe option, most restaurants have a veggie option and usually you could just ask them to skip the cheese, but if you go to the good quality ones where the food is prepared in the actually restaurant you can tell the chef your dietary requirements and they’’ll give you a list of things they can do to accommodate you.

The best way to go is if you know you’re eating out look at the menu before hand and call up to see if they do anything vegan and 9/10 the answer is a yes.
